We believe that children should be inspired to create in many forms. As such, students at all levels participate in a wide variety of creative projects. This includes art classes, music lessons and performances throughout the year. Students are encouraged to find their inner creative genius!
Through a proficiency-based program, basic skills are mastered and built on while at the same time providing an academic environment that fosters curiosity. We believe that learning occurs both in and out of the classroom and an effort is made to help the student connect his or her education to their own environment.
Play has a definite purpose in life and we encourage this in many different ways. Washburn students have an active school life that includes sports, field trips and overnight outings. Through play, students learn how to interact with their environment and the people in it.
Students participate in their community and beyond through a wide variety of volunteer programs including anti-drugs campaigns, human rights activism, park clean-up and even disaster relief. Washburn students learn the value and pride of contributing to making their world a better place.

When I first started going to Washburn I talked to no one except for my best friend Montana and the teacher when absolutely necessary. Shawn soon found this out and began working to bring me out of my shell. Amazingly enough, it worked. I began to flourish in my studies and talk to more people.
Over the past two years I have seen unbelievable change in how they look at school. They are excited to go each and every day. They are excited to tell me how their week has gone and what they have learned. As a parent, I can't tell you how this makes me feel.
Algebra 2 had many, many real life examples that I never would have thought of before (and they didn't include any engineering)! It gave me a new perspective on algebra that I never had.
