Washburn Student Flourishes at Studies

My Success at Washburn Academy

Hi, my name is Augestina, and this is my success a Washburn.

Before I came to Washburn I didn’t know what to expect. My previous school had just closed down and I was told I would be attending public school for the first time in my life. I was terrified.

I had only ever gone to one school and one school only, and it had just closed. My best friend was attending Washburn at the time and loved it. This was after she had gone to public and left because she hated it. If she didn’t like public school, I saw no hope for myself, seeing as I was timid, didn’t like to talk to new people and was a homebody. To have said I was shy would have been the understatement of the year.

When I first started going to Washburn I talked to no one except for my best friend Montana and the teacher when absolutely necessary. Shawn soon found this out and began working to bring me out of my shell. Amazingly enough, it worked. I began to flourish in my studies and talk to more people.

I soon started attending dual enrollment classes at St. Petersburg College and striving more and more fervently towards my goal of getting a diploma.

Before going to Washburn I had done the Study Skills for Life course three times and The Basic Study Manual twice. I knew how to use study tech, but I saw no use for it and didn’t think it worked. Jen got in comm with me about this and I slowly started to see the light. Now I use it whenever I’m studying and wouldn’t have it any other way.

I would like to thank Shawn Float for being such an awesome teacher and principal. Always keeping it real and telling the straight up truth.

Nicole, thank you for being the sassiest teacher alive and knowing everything and anything there is to know about the human body.

Neil, thank you for being the coolest science and geography teacher ever.

Grandpa, thank you for always smiling at me in the hall way and keeping your door open for all those who need someone to talk to.

Kelly, words cannot describe how thank full I am to have had the opportunity to escape to your room of colorfulness, joy and creativity when I was getting too bogged up in my head. The school would be lost without you.

Jen, I love you with all my heart. You were my rock while going to Washburn and could always tell when I needed to talk to someone. You helped me through all my algebra, grammar, government and any other subject that I did not want to face. You made learning these easy and fun. You truly are the best teacher in the whole universe. I am going to miss all the great come backs you always had for everything. I love you.

Thank you Washburn for helping me achieve greatness.
